MASTERPLAY
is designed primarily for broadcast and
cable TV operations.
It supports both
event-driven (DTMF) and time-of-day
scheduling
and playback.
Powerful On Screen
Display (OSD) capabilities replace many of
the functions of a master control switcher ...
such as bug insertion and text crawl. The
system supports GPI in, GPI out,
router/switcher
control, and optional VCR control.
The Playlist displays a
thumbnail frame grab (with four,
user-selectable sizes) for every MPEG and/or
graphic image that is scheduled to play.
Supported file formats are MPEG-1,
MPEG-2, BMP, JPG, TIF,
GIF, TGA and RTF.

Playlist Editor |
The
PLAYLIST
EDITOR lets you create and update your schedule using
simple drag-and-drop protocol.
The left column
(event time) is used to define WHEN an
event will happen; the middle column
(scheduled inventory) shows WHAT file(s)
will play at the scheduled event time; and the
right column contains a customizable list
of program instructions that you drag-and-drop
into the scheduled inventory list.
These instructions include
GPIs, router/switcher crosspoint selections,
repeat instructions, and VCR events (optional).

|
SCHEDULING is a snap
using the Add Event calendar. You
can specify that an event happen every
day, on recurring days of the week, or on
select dates as far into the future as you
wish.
You can Add, Delete,
and Edit event times in the Playlist
Editor. The event times are
considered "hard times" in the schedule.
As you add files to an event window, (e.g.
between 7:00 and 7:30), the Total Time and
Time Remaining are updated in real-time at
the top of the event inventory window, so
you know exactly how to balance program
content and spots, promos, and IDs in the
scheduled event window. |

The
SEGMENT EDITOR
lets you open any MPEG-2 file and create
"virtual edits" without having to "cut" the file
with a destructive MPEG editor. This is
essentially a non-linear editor for MPEG-2
files. In fact, the keyboard shortcuts are
mapped the same as Adobe Premiere.
You can mark a single IN and
OUT point ... or create several segments ... and
name each segment appropriately. All the
segment information is stored as metadata in the
MPEG file structure, so it transports with the
file or copies of the file.
You can schedule any segment
to play at any time in any order. The
Segment Editor is
one of the most 'powerfully simple' utilities in
the MASTERPLAY toolbox. |

Switcher/Router
Setup & Control
  |
SWITCHER / ROUTER
definition is made simple by naming the
crosspoints to match your sources and
destinations.
MASTERPLAY controls dozens of routers using
RS-232 serial protocol. You can control up
to three switchers or routers from the software: one
Master and two Slaves.
You
can also manually select any Output and Input
using the switcher control panel shown here. |
 |

GPI Setup |
GPI
inputs are defined with custom setup
pages (tabs) for each program provider.
You can add as many provider tabs as you wish,
specifying the Start and Stop times for
affiliate break and ID insertions.
The DTMF detector connects
to a serial port on the MASTERPLAY workstation.
After the serial instruction is received,
MASTERPLAY switches the router input FROM the
provider TO the MPEG card for break playback.
After the break is complete, the router switches
back to the provider ... and the next break is
cued for playback - waiting for the next GPI
instruction.
GPI
outputs (8) are managed using lines 1 - 8
on the parallel port of the MASTERPLAY
workstation. |
