RUSHWORKS solutions integrate software and hardware, with system components optimized for networked operation and information management.  Every solution is built-to-order.  The specific hardware configuration is determined by our assessment of your current and future operational objectives.

CHASSIS

We utilize four form factors in our playback chassis selection: desktop (MiniRUSH, MiniPEG), 2U, 3U, and 4U.  The determination is generally based on price, local storage (disks), and the number of PCI slots required or anticipated to support your operations.  Our largest workstations support eight (8) channels of MPEG playback.  And since all workstations are networked, there is no practical limit to the number of output channels we support.

It is important to understand that, as a general rule, the two computer components most likely to fail are (1) disks, and (2) power supplies.  Other system components are generally reliable in the long term if you protect your workstation from power surges and 'brown-outs' by using an appropriately rated uninterrupted power supply (UPS).

So we highly recommend that you consider, minimally, either a mirrored disk set (RAID 1) or a failover protected multi-drive configuration (RAID 5) with online capacity expansion (OCE).  We configure storage arrays that support 4, 8, 12 and 16 drives.  Utilizing the largest currently available SATA hard drives, you can expand your system to 6 Terabytes of storage ... which is approximately 1,500 hours of MPEG-2 video @ 8Mb/sec.

In many situations, using a Network Attached Storage (NAS) server is a sensible and cost-effective solution for centralized data asset storage and management.  In the "end-to-end" digital environment, this device replaces the entire room or rooms that may currently house your tape library.

As with all our server and encoder solutions, the software and hardware are integrated in a single chassis.  Encoders and Playback workstations are generally in separate chassis, providing protection from total system failure, but operating optimally over the high-speed Ethernet connection included with each chassis.

The MiniRUSH is a great little host for our MultiZone automation, as well as digital signage applications.  It boasts Gig-E, 2 x USB, 1394, and outputs VGA/DVI, composite, S-Video and component signals.

The MiniPEG desktop chassis is widely used in our MultiZone solutions ... as well as single-channel MasterPlay workstations and encoders.  It includes a DVD or DVD-RW, a 300W power supply, 3 x PCI slots and an AGP slot.  It supports up to two hard drives and a RAID 1 (mirroring) controller.

Our 2U rack mount workstation is configured much the same as the MiniPEG above.  If you need a rack mount solution, this is the one for a single or two-channel MasterPlay ... or single channel MultiZone.

This 3U rack mount workstation is the perfect choice for multi-channel playback, supporting up to five (5) channels.  It will support an 8-drive RAID 5 controller (as shown) with up to 3.5 TB of storage (~ 825 hours MPEG-2  8Mb/sec).

Our 4U rack mount workstation supports up to 8 channels of playback, and a variety of storage configurations.  Multiple chassis can be networked for demanding environments such as VOD/LOD.

DECODERS: SD
The MultiZone workstation uses Windows Media Player ... along with an MPEG-2 player ... for playback of all media file types.  The video output to your modulator or transmitter is from the composite video output of the video card included in the system.  There is no additional hardware card required for video output.  This system will also play PowerPoint and Flash file formats.

All other RUSHWORKS playout servers use a hardware decoder card that outputs audio and video to your modulator or transmitter.  The file formats supported are MPEG-1, MPEG-2, BMP, JPG, TIF, GIF, TGA and RTF.

You can configure up to eight (8) cards in a chassis, so with an 8-channel MasterPlay Automation software license you can control eight independent channels of automation from one playout server.

There are several standard definition (SD) decoders to choose from ... AND our High Definition (HD) card.  These cards can reside in the same server for true DTV Multi-Casting support.  Here is a comparison chart to assist in your selection of the appropriate decoder:

All the decoder boards support On Screen Display (OSD) of graphics.  With the MasterPlay Automation software you can create text crawls with user-defined colors, fonts, backgrounds and transparency.  You can also position logos (bugs) and control when they appear and disappear ... all using the Playlist Editor in MasterPlay.

DECODER: HD

The RW500HD High-Definition MPEG-2 Decoder decodes MP@HL (4:2:0) video at up to 80 Mbps. It provides continuous, frame-accurate, seamless back-to-back playback of all standard MPEG-2 streams. All popular ATSC-compliant formats are supported: 1920x1080i, 1280x720p, 720x576p, 720x576i, 720x480p and 720x480i.

It has three video outputs for maximum flexibility. Use the High-Definition Serial Digital Interface (SMPTE 292M) video output and the Digital Visual Interface (DVI) or the analog RGB (or YPbPr) output.
